Sentimental Value

Norway celebrates a major achievement with Sentimental Value, which has earned an impressive 9 Academy Award nominations.

  • Best Director: Joachim Trier.

  • Best Picture: Producers Maria Ekerhovd and Andrea Berentsen Ottmar.

  • Best Actress: Renate Reinsve.

  • Best Supporting Actress: Elle Fanning and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas.

  • Best Supporting Actor: Stellan Skarsgård.

  • Best Original Screenplay: Eskil Vogt and Joachim Trier.

  • Best Editing: Olivier Bugge Coutté.

  • Best International Feature Film.

This marks one of the strongest showings for a Norwegian film in Oscar history and highlights the growing global impact of Norwegian filmmaking.

Storm Studios – Sinners

Norway’s Storm Studios is also represented through its work on Sinners, with Norwegian VFX supervisor Espen Nordahl among the film’s Academy-recognized visual effects nominees. Their nomination underscores Norway’s world-class expertise in visual effects and cinematic craftsmanship.

The Ugly Stepsister – Best Makeup & Hairstyling

Norwegian film The Ugly Stepsister has received an Academy Award nomination for Best Makeup & Hairstyling, honoring nominees Thomas Foldberg and Anne Cathrine Sauerberg for their exceptional transformative visual work. The nomination firmly places Norwegian genre filmmaking on the global stage.

Helle Faber – Mr. Nobody vs. Putin

Danish producer Helle Faber is nominated in the Best Documentary Feature Film category for Mr. Nobody vs. Putin. The nomination highlights Denmark’s strong presence in documentary filmmaking at the highest international level.

Ludwig Göransson – Sinners

Swedish composer Ludwig Göransson has received two Oscar nominations for his work on Sinners, for Best Original Score and Best Original Song. Göransson continues to solidify his place among the most recognized composers in contemporary cinema, bringing Nordic musical excellence to Hollywood’s biggest stage.

Cinematography – Frankenstein

Denmark is proudly represented in the Best Cinematography category through Danish director of photography Dan Laustsen for Frankenstein. The nomination highlights the continued international recognition of Danish visual artistry and technical excellence in filmmaking.

Lars Knudsen – Bugonia

Danish producer Lars Knudsen is nominated for Best Picture for Bugonia, as part of the film’s producing team. In addition to its Best Picture nomination, Bugonia is also nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Score, further cementing its place among this year’s most recognized films. Knudsen’s nomination highlights the continued impact of Danish producers within major international cinema.
